Flood Relief Project
The village of Messailler and the compound – where the school and
orphanage are – were devastated by hurricanes last summer, which
culminated in a massive flood on September 7, 2008.
The stories and pictures have been heart wrenching.
Church members lost family members and homes, possessions were swept away, vehicles
were washed away, and the orphanage, school and most medical supplies
have been damaged. There remains a long road of recovery and
rebuilding ahead. Lespwa is committed to providing recovery
assistance, and we ask for your help.
Any funds designated "Flood Relief" and sent through our website or to our
P.O. Box will be used specifically for this relief project.
Messailler Orphanage
The orphanage is due to open in fall 2009 with the capacity to house
40 children. The structure of the building is complete, and a few
finishing aspects are currently being completed. The catastrophic
floods of 2008 knocked down the security wall around the complex,
which creates a valid safety concern for housing children. This wall
is currently being rebuilt, and hopefully will be completed this
summer before the orphanage opens in the fall. If you would like to
sponsor an orphan each month, please click here.
We have begun a new project to sponsor children in the village to
attend school. This project will encompass 5 different schools and
hopefully offer hundreds of children the opportunity to receive a
high-quality Christian education. If you would like to sponsor a child
to go to school each month, please click here.
